The legendary singer, who is of Senegalese birth, Akon, has stayed discreet in affirming whether he is a billionaire or not even as he said that the new city he is planning to build in Senegal could take up to 10 years to complete.

Metro reports that the Locked Up crooner revealed his plans for his home country while in talks with Nick Cannon, saying the project will be called Akon City.

He also added that the city would be powered by solar energy, adding that since the building will take a decade, they are constructing it in stages.

“It’s all renewable, the Akon-tainment solar city. It’s all renewable. A real physical place, it’s going to have a real airport. It’s a 10-year building block so we’re doing it in stages. ‘We started construction in March and stage two is going to be 2025,” he said.

When Nick briefly brushed the fact that he must be a billionaire, saying that it would take one to handle such a project. Akon replied that a billionaire would not label himself one, because nobody knows how much they are really worth.

“When I hear stuff like that, it makes me sad in such a way because when I travel I see so many things that happen. So many people that need… things to be resolved.

“And if you have a billion dollars sitting in the bank, while you have all these people suffering, it’s crazy to me. ‘It’s like a waste of a billion dollars,” he said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Akon is gunning for the 2024 US presidential run and might even cooperate with Kanye West.

Akon spoke about his stepping back from the 2020 presidential race and a possible future run. Even though as he was not born in America he would not be eligible to become president.

“I know what the issues are. And as a person, as an immigrant, as a black man, as whatever you want to call it, I kinda know or feel like I know that I can take the country and move it forward. I really believe so,” he said.
