- Whether you agree with him or not, it takes a certain amount of guts to slam the government with the top dogs sitting in front of you
Ndebele King Makhosonke Mabena has blasted the state for failing to take care of its traditional leaders.
Briefly.co.za reported that the funeral of King Zwelonke Sigcawu drew South Africa's highest-ranking politicians including President Cyril Ramaphosa, Thabo Mbeki and EFF leadership.
While most lamented the loss of a beloved leader, Mabena seized the chance to give politicians a piece of his mind:
“The mere fact that King Sigcawu struggled to pay his medical bills just shows that government doesn't care about kings. We are also people, we get sick as well."
One of the complaints Mabena put forward was the lack of admin support for royal councils:
“We even struggle to write letters as we do not have administrators. We can't pretend that everything is correct when kings struggle."
During the ceremony that drew thousands of South Africans, President Cyril Ramaphosa lamented Sigcawu:
“He has left behind a legacy of visionary leadership that lives on. We have lost a leader whose impact and influence extended beyond our borders."
