Nelson Mandela Bay lost its mayor today as Mongameli Bobani was overwhelmed by a motion of no confidence.

DispatchLIVE reports that the DA, ANC, COPE, Patriotic Alliance and others all voted in support of DA councillor Morne Steyn's motion.

Bobani had announced ahead of the vote that he would be dissolving his mayoral committee.

After the motion enjoyed a majority ruling, Bobani had immediately left the chambers.

Briefly.co.za reported that the ousted mayor had raised eyebrows recently with regards to the metro's water crisis.

Bobani had told citizens during a memorial for the late Xhosa King Sigcawu that white people had stolen the water.

Unsurprisingly, the politician has now been stripped of his place at the helm of the municipality.
