When Masibusane Zongo emerged on the scene, many football fans touted him to be the next big thing.

The talented youngster made a name for himself at SuperSport United, but failed to reach his full potential.

Zongo even went on trial at English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, but failed to land a contract.

Some of the things that excited fans the most were his dribbling skills and trickery.

The winger often thrilled the crowd with dazzling footwork and showed scant respect for defenders.

Born in Mthatha on 30 March 1990, Zondo is still the right side of 30, but has't been able to reach the level that he initially aspired to.

Following a couple of disappointing seasons at Matsatsantsa, Zongo was loaned out to Vasco Da Gama, but the move never materialised into a long-term deal.

After a spell with Bidvest Wits, Zongo became a bit of a journeyman as he featured for the likes of Chippa United, Platinum Stars and even for Extension Gunners in Botswana.

With a few good years still left in him, hopefully Briefly.co.za will one day feature an updated Throwback article featuring Zongo playing for a top PSL team.
