Legendary Star Trek actor René Auberjonois bid farewell to planet earth at the age of 79 after a long and draining battle with cancer.

René had metastatic lung cancer. He passes away at his home in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Briefly.co.za learnt that the renowned actor’s death was confirmed by his son Rèmy-Luc.

Not only was René famous for his part in Star Trek, but he also starred in many well-known films, sitcoms and series; Boston Legal, Princess Diaries, The Little Mermaid Benson, The Practice, Murder She Wrote, The Jeffersons, L.A Law, Frasier and a whole bunch more.

René’s passing has left many with a hole in their hearts. The impact and legacy that he left behind will never be forgotten.

Co-stars, friends and fellow stars have taken to social media to pay tribute to René.

His “Deep Space Nine” co-star Armin Shimerman, who played Quark.

Fellow Hollywood star and family friend, William Shatner.
