- Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Andile Jali has qualified for the CAF Champions league team of the week
- Jali was the only South African to make the cut following his performance in Sundowns' 0-0 draw with Wydad Casablanca
- The 29-year-old has been in tremendous form this season
Mamelodi Sundowns played out to a goalless draw against Wydad Casablanca in the CAF Champions league this weekend.
While the scoreline points to an uneventful contest, two standout moments emerged following the match.
Briefly.co.za initially reported that Wydad fans chanted the name of Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane after the two teams ended with a 0-0 draw.
Another wonderful consequence of the match is that Andile Jali has been named in the CAF Champions league team of the week.
The Sundowns midfielder is the only South African to feature in the line-up and it epitomises his form this season.
The nomination marks an amazing turnaround after Jali endured a tough 2018/19 season.
This season, Briefly.co.za noted that the 29-year-old looks leaner and fitter and has been one of the exceptional midfielders.
The former Orlando Pirates ace enjoyed a four-year spell in Belgium and initially struggled to adapt to life in Mzansi upon his return.
Jali was named in a three-man midfield alongside Al Ahly duo Amr El Solia and Mohammed Magdy Afsha.
Sundowns top their group currently, but will face another tricky away trip to USM Alger of Algeria.
