An armed robbery took place in Rietfontein on Saturday as thugs targeted a popular takeaway outlet.

The brazen attack was caught on camera by CCTV surveillance and showed how the thugs initiated the crime.

Armed with a firearm, one of the criminals forced the owners to empty their cash register and proceeded to target customers as well.

A bizarre moment played out as one of the criminals approaches a patron who seems to be in his own world.

The unassuming customer continues to pour tomato sauce over his hot chips and seems removed from the stressful situation.

Unfortunately, his carefree nature didn't prevent the thugs from nabbing his mobile phone.

Intelligence Bureau SA shared the controversial video via Facebook and Briefly.co.za observed the viral reaction.

Carol-Ann Shepherd Rivett empathised with the victims:

"Our poor children have to witness this, so traumatic, sorry little one."

Yvonne Khosi Siphuka was left in disbelief:

"And I know this couple, they've owned this shop for years and to have this happen to them must've been devastating. While the other guy continues to pour tomato sauce wow!"

Bridget Greyvenstein expressed her concern as a local resident:

"I actually live in primrose and normally use that shop when I'm in town. Looks like you're no longer safe anywhere."

Zisuxolo Gudu and some others felt that the composed customer reacted calmly as a coping mechanism:

"Saddening stuff when you’re trying to make ends then someone comes and take all you’ve worked for... then there was the gentleman with tomato sauce - cool, calm and collected doing what he does best."
