- A 39-year-old celebrity hairstylist from Johannesburg has been styling Zozibini Tunzi's hair
- Jawad Maphoto said that her hair was not a cheap do, costing at least R180
- The Jozi hairstylist has been working his magic on the Miss Universe 2019 winner for the past five months
Zozibini Tunzi is our everyday woman crush for more than one reasons. Of course, winning the 2019 Miss Universe is one of the reasons we love our golden girl but it is not all.
Zozi has been applauded for rocking her natural hair instead of splashing thousands on weaves. After bagging the Miss SA 2019 title, the stunning beauty opened up about her plans to rock her natural hair on the global stage.
While some trolls said Zozi was sporting a R20 hairstyle, others were in awe of her confidence in her natural beauty.
Now, Dispatch Live revealed the man who has been behind her stylish hairstyle. For the past five months, Jawad Maphoto has been styling the Miss Universe's hair.
Maphoto shut down the trolls who said Zozi's style was cheap, adding it costs more than R180 for it. According to the publication, Maphoto is a celebrity hairstylist who owns the Lajawi Salon in Midrand, Johannesburg.
The 39-year-old said the cut can cost at least R180 but it could be more, depending on the client's requests.
Dispatch Live quoted Maphoto saying:
"We use colours [dyes] that can intensify such a simple cut. So, it's the extras that make the cut. You can get the same cut with the guy cutting hair under a bridge but with us, it's about understanding how to take care of hair."
Briefly.co.za learned the dynamic duo met when he was doing Zozi's hair during the Miss SA's top 16 round.
The stylist also worked his magic on Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters before she took the Miss Universe title two years ago.
During her time as Miss SA, Maphoto was tasked with making Zozi's hair look fresh for her media appearances.
It was revealed Zozi fits weekly hair touch-ups into her schedule. Maphoto, who was born in GaMaphoto village, said since Zozi rocked her natural hair and managed to win Miss Universe, more women have requested to have their hair styled in what has now been dubbed the "Universe Haircut".
