Mary Mubaiwa has been arrested and is facing a serious charge sheet- money laundering, fraud and contravening exchange control rules.
This is according to Zimbabwe's Anti-Corruption Commission, who confirmed the arrest took place on Saturday evening.
The wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga will likely be appearing in court on Monday, says ZACC spokesperson John Makamure.
Other than a confirmation of the arrest, Makamure refused to go into any further detail, reports SowetanLIVE.
The vice president has also declined to shed some light on the damning charges. The ZACC is facing pressure to tackle mass levels of corruption.
Transparency International noted that every year Zimbabwe loses around R14 billion through its corrupt politicians.
Briefly.co.za reported that the country was currently facing 'man-made' starvation, with millions of citizens identified as being in urgent need of basic nutrition.
