Halala: SA educator lands 'Teacher of the Year' award abroad

- A South African educator has made a name for himself abroad

- Khangelani Sibiya walked away with the Teacher of the Year award from the Global Education Network

A local educator, who teaches mathematics and science at the Siphumelele Secondary School, was recently honoured for his work in the education system.

Khangelani Sibiya and other teachers around the world were in Dubai to attend an awards ceremony hosted by the Global Education Network.

Sibiya walked away with the Teacher of the Year award, Briefly.co.za learned.

A statement by the Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal read:

"Global Education Network recognises the importance of innovation in global education through its Global Education Ideas Award."

The top teacher posted a statement issued by the Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal about his award on Facebook:

South Africans could not contain how proud they were of Sibiya's achievement and they applauded him online.

Hibert Phelelani Thabede commented:

"Congrats to our African educator. You have outstandingly represented us as South African educators."

Lilly Ganta wrote:

"Congrats Mr Sibiya, continue with your good work."

Philani Mjwara said:

"Beyond the call of duty. Well done KwaZulu-Natal."
