A noble gesture offered by the owners of a local store has struck a chord with South Africans.

The two shop owners shared a unique advertisement that they'd be open for business on Christmas day, but revealed a twist.

Between 12pm and 14pm, they invited any lonely souls to pop in for a free mince pie and a hug.

The kind couple added that visitors are regarded as family.

The unique message was photographed and shared via the #ImStaying group on Facebook.
