American-Cuban pop singer, Camila Cabello, took to Twitter to apologise for her past racist language she used on social media.
According to Associated Press, the Grammy-nominated artist tweeted that she was sorry for using offensive and hurtful words on social media as a teen, and now that she is 22, she has grown up and realised her errors.
“When I was younger, I used language that I’m deeply ashamed of and will regret forever. I was uneducated and ignorant and once I became aware of the history and the weight and the true meaning behind this horrible and hurtful language, I was deeply embarrassed I ever used it.”
The former Fifth Harmony singer was accused of using racial comments in the now-deleted Tumblr accounts. Earlier this week, social media users shared screenshots of Cabello’s old and offensive posts, which forced the artist to issue an apology.
“As much as I wish I could, I can’t go back in time and change things I said in the past. But once you know better, you do better and that’s all I can do,” she added in her lengthy statement.
Cabelleo’s hit singles include Havana and Senorita with Shawn Mendes. The singer released a new album earlier this month.
She closed her statement saying she would use her social media platform to “speak out about injustice and inequality”.
“I’ll continue doing that. I can’t say enough how deeply sorry and ashamed I feel, and I apologise again from the bottom of my heart.”
Here are some reactions from her tweet:
Meanwhile, yesterday, Briefly.co.za reported that American songbird, Mariah Carey, basically won the decade challenge with her latest tweet.
For those who don’t know what the decade challenge is, it is a challenge that sees someone post a picture of themselves in the beginning of the decade next to one taken at the end of the decade. This is usually to show their glow up, and the challenge has taken the internet by storm.
However, Mariah Carey said she didn’t quite get the challenge. She posted two of the exact same photos of herself on Twitter, and captioned the post, “Time is not something I acknowledge."
