R. Kelly insists that he is innocent of a claim of bribery made against him. He has pleaded not guilty of bribing an official to get a fake identification document for late singer Aaliyah Haughton.

She was only 15 at the time and one day after allegedly bribing the official, the two got married.

This is the latest charge in a criminal case accusing him of running a many year-long scheme to recruit underage girls for sex, according to TimesLIVE.

Kelly and Aaliyah got married but the marriage was annulled in 1995.

Kelly entered his plea before U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly in Brooklyn federal court by video conference from Illinois, where he is currently jailed, Briefly.co.za learnt.

The singer was arrested on separate sets of charges brought by federal prosecutors in Brooklyn and Chicago.

Aaliyah passed away 18 years ago in a plane crash in the Bahamas in 2001. Kelly is scheduled to go to trial in Brooklyn in May 2020.
