After inciting rage nationwide, Kanthan Pillay has been dismissed as eNCA head of news. This comes shortly after Samkele Maseko snubbed Pillay's apology.
eNCA has been making the headlines in a very personal way this week and the situation has culminated in Kanthan Pillay's dismissal.
The news agency confirmed in a statement that it had terminated its relationship with the executive, with the dismissal coming into play immediately.
Briefly.co.za reported that Pillay had incited controversy when referring to Samkele Maseko as a 'rat' jumping ship to the SABC.
This prompted an impressive boycott on the agency, with politicians jumping on board in a show of solidarity.
The agency said that Pillay's conduct had left no choice but for them to part ways and end the working relationship:
“After intense overnight investigation and consultation, the channel decided it had no alternative but to end its relationship with him. Although he was acting in an individual capacity and his posting was unsolicited, he was nonetheless a senior member of staff and the channel believes there was no room for any other outcome and that damage control was imperative."
Maseko has snubbed the apology issued by Pillay, adamant that it would be inhumane for him to do so while Khaya Khumalo was still on suspension.
