- The ANC has responded to the drama over late salary payments for party employees
- The ruling party has told staff that they simply have to wait until payday despite Christmas approaching
- It appears ANC comrades will have some last-minute shopping to do while the nation enjoys the holidays
Most people have settled in to enjoy the festivities, shopping either completed or in final stages, however, ANC employees will have to bide their time.
Briefly.co.za reported that hundreds of staff members had been up in arms over the fact that their salaries hadn't been paid out.
In response to the hype over the situation Dakota Lekgoete commented that:
“Kindly be advised that our payday is the 25th of every month. Against the backdrop of Christmas on the same day, we will consider Tuesday. Furthermore, like any institution, we don’t discuss our HR [human resources] matters through the media."
The South African spoke to a source within the party who said this wasn't the first time:
“There have always been problems with the salaries paid by the party. However, the other staff, paid by the caucus office, are always paid on time."
The debacle has drawn attention to the financial strain on the ruling party, with speculation that the dip in voter support had led to fewer donations to the ANC.
