AKA had an amazing year in 2019 racking up a list of major money moves. Mzansi’s Supa Mega got the girl and the green!
This year saw AKA break a record when his custom-made sneakers sold out. He was also nominated for BET awards and received a number of accolades.
Briefly.co.za has had a busy year filled with reporting on AKA’s achievements. Below are just some of the things AKA conquered this year:
1 His very own sneakers
His sneakers were collaborated with Reebok – the SneAKA. It was a limited style and sold out in 10 minutes when they were launched on 26 October at Fourways Mall.
2 Fees for All Mega Concert
Apart from releasing amazing bangers, AKA was working on doing something good for his fans. The Fees for All Mega Concert's main aim was to assist with the country’s overflowing student debt.
The much-anticipated concert was held on 15 February and the funds raised went to varsity students who were in debt or those that could not afford university fees. It was set up as a public NPO by SA’s top musicians and Kiernan AKA Forbes.
3 GQ coverbaby
With AKA earning countless awards and winning the hearts of so many fans, AKA covered GQ style magazine for the Spring Summer issue.
4 AKA’s orchestra concert
The announcement of AKA’s one-night-only concert with a 30-piece orchestra had fans so excited. The concert took place in March at the Sun Arena. He then extended the concert to Ethekwini on 2 November.
5 Radio man
People are now able to listen to AKA on radio free online. Since he joined F.R.E.E Radio Domination, he has been able to hold the number one spot for weeks.
6 Touch My Blood went double platinum
AKA’s Touch My Blood album sold more than 50 000 copies, which took it to double platinum.
7 Nickledon Kids' Choice Award winner
AKA became the first South African rapper to scoop the prestigious Nickelodeon Kids' Choice award.
