Grassroots football seems to be in good shape if a recent tournament is anything to go by.

The 2019 Fighters Tournament recently took place and the final was contested between Real Fighters FC and Tshaulu FC.

The tournament takes place annually and the Limpopo-based side have been excelling since participating.

Many youth tournaments go under the radar and the sad reality is that there's often a lack of interest from the public.

It was therefore heartening to see the initiative being supported by PSL heavyweights and EFF Deputy President Floyd Shivambu.

Shivambu shared some lovely photos and the following caption with his tweet on Monday:

"#FightersTournament2019 blessed by football legends Edward Motale, Lucky Lekgwathi, Baps Bapela, Frans Makua, Lovers Mohlala and Tonic Chabalala!"

Briefly.co.za gathered the tournament was well received and many thanked Shivambu for his efforts.

Dr Clod (@DCloudius) commended the politician:

"Good work Floyd. Charity begins at home!"

Mlondolozi (@diarra_010) reminisced about a famous football moment:

"Where is Tonic Chabalala? Ask him how does he feel when he thinks of Lebohang "cheeseboy"Mokoena, more especially on the Pirates vs sundowns game of that year."

Ivan Brian (@Madia_SA) shared a cheeky comment:

"They gonna say it's the VBS money. My media, where are you?"
