Ed Sheeran has shown that a healthy lifestyle is worth the effort and dedication - he lost almost 50 pounds (about 22kg).

He quit smoking three years ago and then felt that he needed to 'clear' his lungs. This came after he hadn't exercised for many years after starting to smoke.

"I didn’t touch exercise for a long time it all kind of went out the window.”

He admitted that he loves exercise, which mostly includes running for about 45 minutes, according to People.

"I stopped smoking three years ago and then ever since then started exercising. I love it. I started doing it because when I stopped smoking, I was very aware that my lungs were so full of sh*t and that I needed to clear them out."

Briefly.co.za learnt that Ed says that tours through America are the most difficult time to stay in shape.

"It’s always America that gets me, America in buses,” he said. “Because you finish a gig in America, you know, you get like a tray of chicken wings, sit in the back of the bus, watch The Simpsons, drink a couple bottles of wine, but then that’s every single day, so it just piles on you."

He also plans to one day finish a marathon.

"I definitely will [do a marathon]. For me, it’s something that I want to do it later though. I’d have to do it somewhere where a lot of people weren’t watching... places like Japan or China, or somewhere where it’s a bit more chill."

Meanwhile, he's taking a bit of a break to travel, read and write.
