With 2019 coming to an end, Briefly.co.za took a look at five engagement stories that went viral on social media this year.
1. Viral video shows man proposing at KFC
A video surfaced on social media showing a man popping the question - in KFC. The footage shows the man getting down on one knee as his girlfriend gets emotional. By the looks of it, she said yes and the happy man slipped the ring onto his fiancée's finger.
2. Man proposes to bae after she gave birth, special moment goes viral
On Sunday, a beautiful young lady detailed why 19 December was one of the most special days of her life. Wendy Mawenizer Maritshi took to the #ImStaying Facebook group to share how she became a mom and a bride-to-be on the same day.
She posted a video on the social media platform and wrote:
"I'm staying because the very same hospital I gave birth at (Anncron Hospital) on the 19th is the same day I got proposed to. I was discharged as being a mother and a fiancée."
3. The internet roasts influencer over massive, "tacky" engagement ring
In September, social media influencer Laura G got engaged and she showed off her massive engagement ring.
While some were in awe of the extravagant Paris proposal, others roasted the influencer over her "tacky" ring.
4. Video shows woman proposing to her boyfriend in mall
A woman been identified as Sikilelo Maki had South Africans speechless as she went down on one knee to proposed to her bae in a mall.
Briefly.co.za gathered that Maki proposed to her boyfriend, Thabang, while they queued for food at the Uyethu Mall.
5. Local man surprises girlfriend with special flash mob before proposing
Patrons at Tyger Valley Centre in Cape Town were either having a lunch break at Café Bagaso or strolling in the vicinity when they were treated to a surprise flash mob.
However, that was just a taster for what was to come as a creative and thoughtful man used the group of dancers to his advantage.
It later emerged that he requested the services of Phoenix Dance Company to catch his girlfriend off-guard with a surprise marriage proposal.
