Year in review: 2019's top trending stories that impacted SA

South Africans just could not stay out of news headlines in 2019.

There were many feel-good and inspirational stories, but tragedy was never far away.

6-year-old gets Will Smith's attention

Six-year-old Ivanah Campbell warmed the hearts of South Africans with her stunning dance moves at the side of a road.

However, her popularity reached even greater heights when Hollywood actors Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith sat up and noticed her as well.

Following Will's Instagram post, Campbell's video achieved more than 2 000 000 likes.

Sho Madjozi strikes gold with John Cena

Sho Madjozi was starting to make a name for herself in Mzansi, but achieved global success with her smash hit John Cena.

It was well documented that Cena was extremely gracious throughout the whole experience as he declined to take legal copyright action.

The WWE star even claimed it to be his favourite song and rapped the chorus on a popular US television show.

Uyinene Mrwetyana

Unyinene Mrwetyana's senseless death sparked mass outrage within South Africa.

Soon after, a tragic video went viral, which showed the UCT student having a laugh prior to her brutal rape and murder.

Mrwetyana's death coincided with numerous other females and this mobilised South Africans to initiate the campaign against gender-based violence.

Wedding of the year?

Somizi and Mohale got married in an amazing traditional wedding earlier this year.

The occasion was highly anticipated and the wedding celebration lived up to the hype as it was as glamorous as could be.

Other popular stories worth a mention are Ayanda Thabethe's view on the Black Coffee and Enhle Mbali divorce, the 23-year-old that wowed social media with her looks, Priddy Ugly and Bontle Modiselle's secret wedding and the lady that stunned traffic cops by clapping back in African languages.
