- Former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela called out Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula over the state of potholes
- Madonsela shared images and referred to the potholes as swimming pools in her social media post
- South Africans jumped on the bandwagon and roasted Mbaks for the state of the country's roads
Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula was under fire from an unlikely adversary on Friday as former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela put him under pressure.
Madonsela shared a controversial tweet on Friday and included photos of some gaping potholes on the road to the Pontdrift Border Post.
Based on her caption, Madonsela was clearly not impressed:
"Minister Mr Fix @MbalulaFikile - These aren’t #Potholes, they are swimming pools on road to Pontdrift Border Post."
The photos revealed four images of massive potholes dominating the roads.
Briefly.co.za gathered that based on the reaction, South Africans welcomed Madonsela's tweet and shared similar sentiments.
Many other tweeps shared identical examples of potholes in their areas and were highly critical of Mbaks and his department.
Van (@W_H3is3nberg) added fuel to the fire:
"May I please add the R617 between Howick and Underberg. The potholes has some tar in places."
Sane-Skitzo (@nampiri_za) shared some food for thought:
"It never made sense how our cars are tested for road worthiness, when our roads are not car road worthy. More over, we pay thousands fixing our new cars because of these roads and where do we claim for that on the state?"
I live my truth (@SophiaLinks2) added:
"When the abnormal becomes normal. This also leads to accidents on our roads. Some Provinces can be renamed to Pothole Provinces."
Evyonne Becker (@evyonneb) shared some choice words for the minister:
"I don't think he's bothered much. Too busy showing off his gold chains and other accessories. Moefter!"
