A 28-year-old man has been arrested after being stopped at a roadblock on the Loskop/Ntwane road in Limpopo.
The suspect was caught with a stolen police firearm, a police issue bulletproof vest, handcuffs, a police high vis vest, ammunition and two grenades.
“The law enforcement officers conducting a roadblock in the area pulled over a white Volkswagen Polo driven by the suspect.” Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said.
After he was pulled over the police searched the man and his car.
“The suspect, who initially resisted arrest, will be profiled to possibly link him with serious crimes that were committed in the area or elsewhere.”
The police firearm was traced back to the Dullstroom police station where it was stolen from in June 2019.
In addition to facing charges for impersonating a policeman, he will be charged with theft of a police firearm, possession of ammunition, a bulletproof vest and firearm without permission and for resisting arrest.
The police will continue to investigate the matter.
