eNCA reports that the number of deaths in South Africa related to initiations is close to 30. The Eastern Cape takes the top spot with most deaths reported.
This estimation comes after the death of Mpho Mothupi, who disappeared at the end of November and passed away.
It is believed that he lost his life because of the actions of practitioners at an illegal circumcision school.
Briefly.co.za learnt that 2 initiatives passed away in Gauteng at different illegal initiation schools. One person was arrested since.
Mpho was one of these youngsters and he was laid to rest on 18 December. It is reported that he was buried a short distance away from an initiation school that is operating illegally.
Less than 2 weeks ago, News24 reported that the Eastern Cape premier's spokesperson, Mvusiwekhaya Sicwetsha, confirmed that 21 boys passed during this season's initiation ceremonies.
