- A woman shared an emotional story about how she made her mother proud for the first time
- She grew up being constantly being put down by her mother's negative words
- When she successfully completed her tertiary education, the mom was forced to swallow her unkind words
A recent graduate has opened about how her academic success changed her relationship with her mother. The woman's mom did not want her to enrol in tertiary education, adding that she would never amount to anything in life.
Malebogo Tango took to the #ImStaying Facebook group to share the story of triumphing over obstacles. Her mother had told her that she would never be successful and refused to send her to university because they had no money.
But the determined woman never took the words to heart. She searched for places that offered bursaries and student loans. She struck gold when she was offered a bursary to cover tuition, accommodation and food.
Today she is a certified Internal Auditor. She thanked her lecturers for believing in her even when her own mother did not.
"The day I graduated she swallowed her words and for the first time in my life she gave me a kiss and congratulated me."
Social media users praised her perseverance and strength. Facebook user Ina Steynvaart said:
