The director of the Centre of Applied Legal Studies (CALS) at Wits University warmed hearts on Tuesday when he paid tribute to his mother in a touching Twitter post.
Earlier this year, Briefly.co.za reported Wits appointed a new CALS director - Dr Tshepo Madlingozi - whom they described as "a prominent academic, critical thinker and activist".
On Tuesday, the renowned professor took to Twitter to pay homage to the person who worked hardest to help him succeed - his mother.
The Wits CALS director revealed he graduated law Cum Laude, bagged his doctorate degree abroad and won numerous awards in his career, and it was all thanks to his mother.
Madlingozi wrote on the social media platform:
"Ah sweet, I discovered that mama has put up a ‘shrine’ at home. From LLB with distinction to PhD overseas to multiple lecturer of the year awards to long service recognition certificate: my mom, a single parent, did that. I owe her all."
The post struck a chord with South Africans who applauded the hardworking mama in the comments.
Twitter user, @xnckle, wrote:
"Bless her heart, I have so much respect for single mothers bakithi."
