Gauteng MEC for Youth Development and Education Panyaza Lesufi has had his hands full in recent times with the high rate of vandalism in schools.

He recently took to Twitter and shared a video and some disturbing images of a school being burnt in Evaton.

Based on the damage, one wonders how the learners will be impacted when schools re-open later this month.

The post sparked outrage and Lesufi referred to the criminals as 'mindless thugs'.

However, not everyone agreed as some felt this to be the work of professionals.

Briefly.co.za noted that the spike in township schools being vandalised coincides with a change in government tender process.

Bheko_Nxumalo (@Bheko_N) said,

"Remember this will fall under disaster management so there are no long SCM processes so its quick cash for tender people. They might have a hand on too, I'm not saying it's them but this is a professional foul played here than crime in general."

Bonga Mdletshe (@Mdletshe_BB) asked a pertinent question:

"Intelligence is meant to circumvent acts of terrorism like this, where is SA intelligence where it matters the most."

Patrick (@Patrick13655143) shared some harsh words:

"No punishment to any one ,including people like you Panyaza who defend the corporal punishment to small thugs at school ,who are terrorising our kids teachers and community at large, you always come with fat political statements instead of solving the problem - so please keep quiet."
