A massive storm struck Ekurhuleni on Friday resulting in massive flooding in Kempton Park as well as an unfortunate man being struck by lightning while having lunch.
Briefly.co.za learned that the 50-year-old was struck by lightning at a hotel in Boksburg North while having his lunch. He suffered light injuries. He was not directly hit by the lightning but it was close enough to cause harm.
“ER24 paramedics received a distress call from our community-based emergency vehicle and were on the scene at about 4pm. The man had apparently been eating lunch with his family under a gazebo when the lightning struck nearby,” said Ross Campbell, ER 24 spokesperson.
He was burned on his legs and was treated at the scene before being taken to a private hospital for additional treatment according to kemptonexpress.co.za.
Social media users posted videos of the chaos caused by the heavy rains and the effect it had on cars trying to navigate the flooded roads.
Briefly.co.za reported on another story earlier this week, Kwa-Zulu Natal storm victims will get financial support to rebuild destroyed homes.
