Mamelodi Sundowns have announced that they have parted ways with striker Tokelo Rantie. The PSL giants released a statement explaining that the 29-year-old was missing in action for a month, leading to the termination of his contract with immediate effect.

According to a statement released by the Brazilians, the former Bournemouth striker went missing for a month and was dismissed, following an internal disciplinary process.

The team went on to explain that Rantie's discipline let him down especially because the team needed a striker of his calibre.

The club said that they have zero-tolerance for ill-discipline and would not compromise that stance for any player. Other players who were released due to poor behaviour include Musi Mashaba and Siyabonga Zulu, amongst others.

Rantie joined Sundowns in September but failed to make any official starts for the Brazilians.

Social media users weighed in on the situation online. Twitter user Mmaps_ThePro said:

"His arrogance will be his downfall... That's WHY he didn't get along with Eddie Howe(Bournemouth). The talent is there but his arrogance is holding him back...should be playing for a Top team in Europe. Sad"
