Former Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez has confirmed that he was gifted a Lamborghini during his reign at the club.

The 35-year-old Argentine star spent just two seasons at Old Trafford scoring 34 goals and 14 assists in 99 appearances.

His short spell at the Theater of Dreams saw him two Premier League titles, one Champions League and four other domestic and continental trophies.

Tevez, however, told ESPN FC that Wayne Rooney gave him the car after turning up for training with the Audi car the Red Devils gave all of them.

"At Manchester United training, players would turn up with a Ferrari or a Lamborghini," he told ESPN.

"Everyone, even the worst player, would have a Ferrari. I turned up in the Audi that the club gave you and they all bugged me about it as if it was a Fiat 600.

"I spoke to Rooney and, the crazy guy that he is, he told me 'take the Lamborghini'. I went, without registering, around Manchester with this car, he gave it to me."

Tevez added: "I identified a lot with him because of where he came from, a poor area of Liverpool," He always fought for the ball as if it were his last, the same way I played. I saw myself reflected in him."

The 35-year-old currently plays for his boyhood club Boca Juniors and he has scored 34 goals and assisted 18 others in 99 games.

He has been with the Argentine club side since 2018 after quitting Shanghai Shenhua a year before to return home.

Briefly.co.za earlier reported that ex-England international Wayne Rooney had admitted that losing a huge amount of money via be'tting affected his performances in the early stages of his career.

The 34-year-old who recently joined Derby County lost a staggering £700,000 in the space of about five months back then.

Although, he rose to the top of his career where he earned the sum of £300,000 a week at Old Trafford, the mistake earlier in his career threw him off-balance.
