- Dippenaar was followed by Gary Allen at number two and Milnerton High School's Anuoluwa Makinde
The matric results of 2019 has finally been released and Mzansi has been introduced to the top Grade 12 learners of the past year.
A former Paarl Gimnasium High School pupil, Madelein Dippenaar, topped the list as the number one matric learner in the country.
While addressing the media following the official announcement, Dippenaar said she was extremely surprised when she found out she had been named the country's top learner.
"I never thought it would be possible to be quite honest and when I got the call, it was extremely unexpected - I never thought I would be in the top 10 nationally or maybe provincially," she said.
The top matriculant revealed she had always been a good academic performer and she topped her class every year since Grade 8.
"I have taken two extra subjects since Grade 10 which is German second additional language as well as visual arts at our local art school in Paarl, so I think I have been a really consistent student throughout the year."
According to SABC News, Dippenaar now plans on studying towards a BSC degree in Molecular Biology at Stellenbosch University.
Briefly.co.za decided to take a look at the two pupils who trailed just behind Dippenaar, making up the top three matrics of 2019.
Coming in at second was Gary Allen from Rondebosch Boys High School, who was followed by Anuoluwa Makinde from Milnerton High School - who placed third in the country.
