Social media users were blown away after hearing of the story of a determined young gardener.

The young man, named Patrick, made a decision to compete in the gruelling Attakwas extreme race.

He lacked the resources to properly compete in the 121km race, but his determination saw him through.

Armed with only a basic bicycle, tattered gloves and a pair of All Star takkies, Patrick completed the event in a time of 8:14:42.

Patrick's inspirational story was shared via Facebook and started trending recently.

Briefly.co.za also learnt that Patrick will compete in the epic race this year again, but will be able to call on a brand new bike and gear.

Tony Nelson heaped praise on Patrick:

"This guy should get a sponsor! He is a true inspiration and his community should appreciate him as such!! Well done Patrick, you are a warrior!!"
