The recent rain has brought some relief to the drought-stricken Karoo this week. A video was shared on social media showing the dormant rivers flowing again much to the relief of many.
Locals in the Western Cape region of the Karoo have something to celebrate after heavy rains brought back life into the bone-dry area. The drought had crippled the region and a large part of South Africa.
TheSouthAfrican.com reported that the local dams were only 16% full last month but thanks to the rain, the percentage is expected to rise.
The drought had resulted in the local government having to deliver 90 000 litres of water to the region last month.
Reservoirs in Ladismith and Zoar also had to be replenished.
