- A video emerged via social media and revealed a service delivery protest in progress
- One of the protesters ventured too close to the fire and accidentally set himself alight
- He avoided injury as he scrambled to save himself, but South Africans were left in stitches
Service delivery protests are a serious matter and generally an unsavoury affair.
So it came as quite a surprise when one brought a bit of comic relief to the people of Mzansi.
South Africa Live shared the video via Facebook on Thursday and it sparked a comical reaction.
The group of protesters started the customary process of burning tyres and some of the men took turns stoking it.
One of the protesters ventured too close and inadvertently set himself alight.
He quickly scrambled to a patch of grass and rolled along in attempt to nip the flames.
In the end, the man avoided serious injury, which allowed his friends and social media users to see the funny side.
Briefly.co.za gauged the reactions and many appreciated the lighthearted footage.
John Freemantle explained what he found most amusing:
"Its not funny but I couldn't stop laughing at those brahs laughing in the background."
Langa Mthokozisi Gumede felt exactly the same:
"The guys laughing at the background made me laugh."
Clynton Venter struggled to make sense of it all:
"At the cost of petrol, they could have bought some black label quarts and chilled,or was this after a few quarts and someone decided, let's sabotage the community."
