- Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has struggled to regularly make the starting line-up
- Khune suffered injury last season and hasn't been able to regain his place since then
- The former Bafana Bafana shot-stopper declared his love for Chiefs in a recent social media post and vowed to keep fighting
Itumeleng Khune has become synonymous with Kaizer Chiefs and made a name for himself at the Glamour Boys, prior to earning a Bafana Bafana call-up.
Khune was the toast of the town at Naturena and seeing a Kaizer Chiefs lineup without him was almost unthinkable.
However, his fortunes took a dramatic change after suffering a shoulder injury last season.
Khune spent months on the sidelines and has struggled ever since.
Niggling injuries have disrupted this season as well and Nigerian goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has made the most of the opportunity.
However, Khune recently took to Twitter to once again declare his love for the Amakhosi and vowed to keep fighting.
Briefly.co.za noted the strong reaction from fans as the post started trending.
Most Chiefs supporters shared their admiration for him, but a few called for him to move on to greener pastures.
#KaizerChiefs50 (@NhlivoTouch) showed support for Khune:
"You will bounce back soon skipper, please don't give up. I know you're a great leader and always positive, it's just a matter of time before you're on top again."
#DriveMeCrazy (@yayahcaesar) added,
"The king is baaaaaack, welcome back bhuti Itu. I also love how you encourage the team in every game they play, You're really the future of our club and the love we have for you as fans it more than anything keep up the good work."
RoseGod (@KATLEGO_ANDRI23) expressed an unpopular view:
"You should find a new team."
