Wife of Lesotho’s prime minister accused of murder on the run

Maesiah Thabane, Lesotho’s first lady, is a fugitive of the law after failing to appear before the police for questioning relating to a murder case dating back to 2017.

The victim of the murder was a love rival of Maesiah, Lipolelo Thabane.

Earlier it had been reported that she had barricaded herself in the prime minister's official residence. However, when the residence was searched she was not there.

Briefly.cio.za learned that the Lesotho Prime Minister Thomas Thabane was there, alone in his room. The 80-year-old claimed that he did not know where his wife was.

Maesiah married Thomas shortly after the murder of Lipolelo (58). The prime minister was in the process of divorcing Lipolelo when she was murdered according to the citizen.co.za.

Lipolelo and Thomas had been married since 1987 and had one daughter, Nkoya Hlaele.

Hlaele accused Maesiah of murdering her mom last year.

AfricaTimes has reported that the prime minister has been accused of trying to remove the police commissioner, Holomo Molibeli, becuase of his determination to pursue the investigation into Lipolelo's murder.
