Fans claimed that omission of the two is an indication of the continued history of the Academy leaving out women of colour.

In the nomination list, only one woman of colour made it to the top for a role she was portrayed as a slave.

According to comments on Twitter, the majority expected Jennifer Lopez to be nominated for playing the same roles taken by white actors.

Many people reacted to the nominations list saying that Lupita, Lopen and Eddy Murphy were left out for their colour although they are among the best.

"Lupita Nyong’o not getting a BAFTA nomination for 'Us' is actually mad, when she easily gave us one of the best performances of the year," wrote Beth on Twitter.

According to @dykesinfilm on Twitter, leaving out Lupita for another actress proved that the Academy Awards are literally a white privilege.

"Scarlett Johansson being nominated for an Oscar while Lupita Nyong'o is snubbed is literally white privilege," she wrote.

Most fans are angry about Lopez being snubbed, saying it is not the first time she had been left out of the awards.

Fans felt more angered with the fact that the only black woman nominated, Erivo, is portrayed as a slave in the movie, Harriet.
