Briefly.co.za opened up a can of worms when we conducted an online poll. We asked Mzansi's women whether they prefer a man that provides money or one who offers attention.

There are arguably two very important requirements that most women seek from men - money and attention.

Although currency is a relatively modern measure, much older generations required that men provide in other ways.

Many would argue that a relationship is built on love and attention so it was a tough choice for our readers to decide which is more important - money or attention.

Briefly.co.za conducted the survey via Facebook on Tuesday and it attracted hundreds of responses, but not everyone was on the same page.

While some romantics emphasised the significance of love, others took a more pragmatic approach as they highlighted the necessity of money.

Penny Ratsaka took a bold approach:

"None of the above. I'd rather stay with a man who will love respect and protect me."

Nonny Tukela showed the power of feminism:

"Attention. Money is not love, I want love not money because I can make my own money."

Sneh Ndon'yamanzi Mayisela had readers in stitches:

"Does the guy giving me attention have money too (not to spend it on me)? Cos attention from a broke guy can be very draining."

Rosa Phiri was open and honest:

"I can't lie, I can't be given attention on an empty stomach."
