TimesLIVE reports that the image is actually not from this year but much older, taken all the way back in 2011.

The Department of Education had been approached at the time and an urgent investigation was launched to probe the matter.

The department said the outcome of the investigation located the learners, identifying them as from the Mbizimbelwe Primary School in the Umzinyathi District.

The image had enraged citizens, with numerous people asking for help locating the children in a bid to provide some kind of assistance.
