AmaZulu issue apology for bad behaviour in Maritzburg United clash

- AmaZulu have issued a formal apology for the behaviour of their players during the match against Maritzburg United

- AmaZulu lost the match 1-0 and players had a confrontation with the referee at the end of the contest

- The PSL is currently investigating the incident and Usuthu could face stern punishment

AmaZulu decided to issue a public apology on behalf of their players.

The Usuthu players were involved in a heated confrontation with match officials on Friday at the conclusion of their match against Maritzburg United.

AmaZulu lost the encounter 1-0, but the players were incensed with some of the questionable refereeing decisions on the day.

Briefly.co.za understands that even Maritzburg coach Eric Tinkler was bemused by some of the decisions on the day.

The PSL is currently looking into the matter and Usuthu could be charged if found guilty of unsporting behaviour.

Referee Tshidiso Maruping's performance was placed in the spotlight as both teams were hampered by some of the calls.

To their credit, AmaZulu have issued a statement of apology for the unruly scenes.

General manager Lunga Sokhela said in the statement, "The events that took place after the match are regrettable. We apologise to the sponsors, partners, supporters and the general public."

AmaZulu coach coach Josef Vukuzic was visibly disappointed, but elected not to comment on the standard of officiating.
