The world of sports and fans are mourning the deaths of legendary basketball star Kobe Bryant and daughter, Gianna Bryant.

Many fans did not know much about Kobe's 13-year-old daughter Gianna, apart from the fact that she was a daddy's girl.

Gianna was actually an up-and-coming basketball player and Kobe was managing her basketball team.

Trending footage of Gianna playing the game has proved just how good she was on the court, with her style of play admired by many greats.

The legendary basketballer and others in the NBA saw much of the father’s spark and determination in Gianna.

She was quick to remind people that Kobe did not need a son to continue the family's basketball legacy, as she was going to represent them.

At the time of their deaths, the two were heading to Mamba Sports Academy as Gianna and her teammates were scheduled to play in an amateur tournament.

They were among nine lives that were lost in the heartbreaking accident in Calabasas, California.

Meanwhile, Briefly.co.za reported that local celebs were shocked and saddened by the news of Kobe and Gianna's deaths.

They took to social media to share their feelings on the tragic loss.
