Fans dismayed at Jamie Bartlett, who plays Genaro, leaving Rhythm City

- Fans are up in arms after it's been revealed that Jamie Bartlett will no longer be a part of the Rhythm City cast

- Jamie has played the part of villain David Genaro since the show's inception

- Sunday Sun reports that Jamie will be on set until 5 February

One of the characters that Rhythm City viewers love to hate, David Genaro, will no longer be appearing on screens.

Jamie Bartlett, who has played the character for 13 years, is leaving the soapie to concentrate on other projects.

Jamie won a Best Actor SAFTA for the role last year.

66-year-old Jamie will serve his notice until 5 February.

Sunday Sun reveals that the cast and crew are planning a great send-off for Jamie as he's always been a favourite on set.

One colleague said, "When you say action, he immediately switches from being sweet Jamie to being the mischievous David and I'll miss him for that."

Another concurred, "He's been there since RC started and really captivated his audience. He's irreplaceable and we'll truly miss him."

Fans were not at all happy to hear that Jamie is leaving.
