- Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande has penned a new one-year deal at Naturena
- The 34-year-old has amassed 272 appearances at the club since he joined in 2011
- Fans were overjoyed to hear of the contract extension
Kaizer Chiefs are leading the way on the football pitch as they enjoy a sizeable lead in the Absa Premiership.
It seems they might be setting the pace in the boardroom as well, by resolving numerous contractual obligations.
Earlier Briefly.co.za reported that a few fringe players have been released and that experienced duo Daniel Akpeyi and Bernard Parker have signed contract extensions.
Now it's the turn of veteran midfielder Willard Katsande as he agreed to a one-year extension as well.
The club shared the announcement in a statement: "We are pleased to announce that Willard Katsande's contract has been extended by one season, ending in June 2021."
The 34-year-old has racked up 272 caps at the club since he joined from Ajax Cape Town in 2011.
Briefly.co.za gauged the reaction via Twitter and it seems the Amakhosi faithful were overjoyed by the decision.
Viral Moves is Out (@djdouzersa) said,
"Thank you very much Khosi, that's what we call good news."
Fresh Shandis! (@Master_P_61703) was grateful that Chiefs are honouring the veteran:
"Thanks too. Yes age is not on their side but we can't just throw them out. They did so much for us and they deserve it. We got his replacement in Akumu so we are covered."
Cash out or wait (@IsaacKgafela) called for an even longer extension:
"This is our muthi...the Caterpillar. The Catalist, The Ganganda...without him we lose every game. I would have given him 3 year extension. He's our Andre Pirlo, Iniesta material...players that retire at 40."
