- Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane is facing a Parliamentary movement against her continued time in office
- But the EFF refuses to support the motion currently underway against Mkhwebane
- This comes after National Assembly speaker Thandi Modise approved the DA-led motion
The Economic Freedom Fighters are adamant they will not support the proceedings against Busisiwe Mkhwebane.
Briefly.co.za reported that the Public Protector is facing a motion for her removal after the Democratic Alliance brought it before Parliament.
National Assembly Speaker Thandi Modise has approved the motion, green-lighting the unprecedented removal process for the head of the Chapter 9 institution.
Late last year the rules for such a procedure had been established for the first time, allowing for the establishment of an independent panel of experts to preside over the matter.
It will then move to the National Assembly, who must then approve the final decision. However, Mkhwebane has challenged these rules, dubbing them unlawful and unconstitutional.
EFF national spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi weighed in on the situation, commenting that:
“We should be taking into consideration any criticism from the public, including the PP (Public Protector), about the removal of people heading Chapter 9 institutions. To that extent, we don’t think there is anything wrong she is doing. I am saying the trap we are avoiding is the one that this entire process is drawing attention to – the removal of the PP (Public Protector) and we are opposed to that.”
