The Orlando Pirates cut ties with midfielder Asavela "Shoes" Mbekile on Thursday and it sparked a massive debate on social media.
The Orlando Pirates have confirmed that the "amicably" parted ways with Asavela Mbekile following a meeting between both parties.
Briefly.co.za learned the midfielder joined the club in 2018, however, he requested to be release from his contract. Taking to their official website, the Bucs wrote:
"The Club would like to thank Asavela for his contribution and particularly the professionalism he displayed during his time with us and we wish him all of the best in his future endeavors."
Social media users were left divided by the news - some wanted to know what the Bucs were thinking while others had a good riddance attitude.
Twitter user, @Emma_Tsebe, commented:
"He has composure, and can defend, what the fuuuhhhh is wrong with Pirates technical team."
Another tweep,@__SIZWE__, added:
"Hated this guy. We should release more players."
