- Shannen Doherty was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 but was declared free of the disease
- She went into remission back in 2017 after extensive treatment
- Taking to a popular show on 4 February, the Charmed actress revealed that the "cancer came back"
Popular and adored Charmed actress Shannen Doherty's fans are worried after she spoke up about her recent health struggles.
The 48-year-old appeared in an interview in which she made a staggering revelation - she has stage four cancer.
Her announcement was made public on Tuesday, 4 February in an episode of Good Morning America.
The actress, who was a teenage heartthrob in the classic drama 90210, was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. She went into remission in 2017.
According to Doherty, she has been quietly battling the illness for a year and only decided to go public in 2020.
"It's going to come out in a matter of days or a week that I have stage four," Doherty said. "So my cancer came back and that's why I'm here," she told Amy Robach.
She is still coming to terms with the dreaded disease, which returned barely two years after she went into remission.
Since her initial diagnosis in 2015, Doherty did her best to let fans in on her journey, but with her second fight with cancer, she decided to go private, Briefly.co.za gathered.
This meant she had to quietly battle the disease even as she worked on the Beverly Hills reboot of 90210.
Incidentally, she was battling her disease while mourning the death of her former castmate Luke Perry who passed away in 2019.
"It was so weird for me to be diagnosed and then somebody who was seemingly healthy to go first. It was really shocking and the least I could do to honour him was do that show. I still haven't done enough in my opinion," she said.
Needless to say, Doherty still has a hard time processing the fact that the disease had returned.
“I don't think that I've processed it," she said. "It's a bitter pill to swallow in a lot of ways. I definitely have days where I say, 'Why me?' And then I go, 'Well why not me? Who else? Who else beside me deserves this?' None of us do. I would say that my first reaction is always concern about how am I going to tell my mom, my husband," she added.
