Local up-and-coming artist Mthunzi was chosen to be Apple Music’s New Artist Spotlight for February.
Mthunzi was blown away by this opportunity and said that it’s the best thing to have happened to him in his entire music career.
Briefly.co.za learnt that the young artist recently released his very own 16-track debut album titled Selimathunzi (sunset).
Coming from KwaZulu-Natal, Mthunzi chose to use isiZulu as the primary language on his album. He collaborated with some of Mzansi’s hottest artists on his debut album; Sun-El Musician, S-Tone, Ami Faku, Simmy, Sino Msolo and Claudio X Kenza.
Mthunzi is a self-taught pianist and guitarist who draws his musical flair from a multitude of genres such as Maskandi, House, Afro-Pop and RnB.
Having put his heart and soul into this his debut album, Mthunzi hopes that people will be moved, inspired and fulfilled. He also hopes that people will listen with an open mind so that they are able to fall in love with the sound he has created.
Mthunzi is currently signed by Sun El Musician’s El World Music but this was not the first company that signed him. He was signed by Mapsit first before being noticed by El World Music.
El World Music noticed Mthunzi after he posted clips of himself singing cover music from his label El World Music and tagging @sunelmusician in them. He was then called into work on a few songs which turned into him recording his first singles, “Vuka” and “Insimbi” - a collaboration with Sun-EL Musician.
