Maps Maponyane had the honour of playing a little friendly tennis match with one of the biggest names in tennis, Roger Federer. This was a warm-up to the charity event Match in Africa on Friday night. The series is in its sixth year and this is the first time in Africa.
The big Federer vs Nadal match is being held in support of children's education in Africa and takes place today at the Cape Town Stadium. Aside from the main match, there is also a star-studded doubles match where Bill Gates will team up with Federer and our very own Trevor Noah with Nadal.
Briefly.co.za learnt that Maps and Roger had a little “pre-match” during the shmancy lunch Maps hosted in Rodger’s honour as the ambassador for Moët & Chandon.
Talking to Thando Thabethe on 5FM, Maps explained what an absolute honour it was to get to smack a ball with the legend. He also said that Rodger is a solid dude who is truly humble and thankful that he gets to use his talent to help others.
At the age of almost 39, Roger is a true legend who has left an irreplaceable mark not only on tennis but on sport as a whole.
Taking to social media, Maps shared a clip of the match in which he claims to have dominated the world grand slam champ. Alright Maps, we will give you this one!
