- Joaquin Phoenix won the Best Actor Oscar for his role in the hit movie, Joker
- Instead of making his speech about his acting ability, Joaquin decided to address more serious matters
- In a speech that moved those who listened, the actor talked about the many mistakes humans make
Joaquin Phoenix scooped up the Best Actor award at the 92nd annual Academy Awards for his superb acting in the popular film, Joker.
He continued to be as humble as ever when accepting his award, Briefly.co.za gathered. The movie star said that he was filled with gratitude.
"I do not feel elevated above any of my fellow nominees or anybody in this room because we share the same love - the love of film."
His acceptance speech wasn't as much about how great working on the film was as it was about the things that humanity is doing wrong.
Joaquin admitted that he himself had made many mistakes in his life and went on to talk about animal rights and the egocentric nature of humans.
The actor was quite passionate in his speech and also talked about second chances.
He ended the speech by quoting - and in this way honouring - his late brother, River Phoenix. River passed away in 1993 after an overdose in Hollywood. He was 23 years old.
"Run to the rescue with love and peace will follow."
