He is best known for his work as one of the pioneers of Kwaito music together with the likes of Boom Shaka, Trompies, and Mandoza back in the 1990s. Mdu Masilela biography
Growing up in the streets of Soweto, Mdu used to play around with his grandmother’s piano because of his love for music. In school, he created a number of music groups until he completed his matric. After school, he formed the group MM Deluxe with the fellow artist Mandla ‘Spikiri’ Mofokeng in 1988. Two years later, in 1990, he released his debut album called LA Beat. Currently, he lives in his upmarket house at Morningside near Sandton.

Career
Since releasing his debut album, Mduduzi has been actively involved in the music scene in various capacities, not just as a singer. He has also been known to compose as well as being a bassist and keyboardist. Mdu has also been instrumental in giving opportunities to upcoming musicians such as Sharon Dee and MaWillies.

Mdu Masilela wife and children
Mdu is married to Sarah Masilela, his childhood sweetheart. The couple is blessed with three children.
However, Mdu's marriage story is marred by accusations of cheating on his partner with recent rumors stating that he paid lobola for his baby's mama, Sibahle Dlamini, back in 2016. In 2012, he was accused by Sunday World tabloid of having extra-marital affairs with Tshwane's Bathile Mebe, an American Express cashier at OR Tambo International Airport. From this affair, it was alleged that the two got a baby in 2006, and Sarah, Mdu's legal wife, almost left. However, Sarah forgave her husband, and they opted to raise the baby together with their other 3 kids.
The talented musician was also accused of abusing his wife Sarah and even going so much as to threaten her with a gun. However, his wife came out to support her husband and denied the allegations. He was also accused of assaulting his baby's mama, Sibahle, in 2017. This seemed to anger some fans who have also disagreed with ANC MP Mduduzi Manana who was also accused of assault once.

Mduduzi's first car was a powder-blue Mazda Dombolo 323 that he bought for less than R5000, which made him the envy of the town for a few days before it started acting up. He eventually got rid of it and bought a Citi Golf. His latest ride is a high-powered super classic sports car.

Recently, Mr. Masilela was with Samthing Soweto sharing a stage and celebrating the latter’s success on having one his songs reach platinum status. It seems he is still on his mission to promote young talent in South Africa.
