President Cyril Ramaphosa is braced to deliver his 2020 State of the Nation address in Cape Town on Thursday.

While most South Africans were queuing up to witness Ramaphosa's debut SONA, this year's event seems to be attracting less fanfare.

Nevertheless, the president has been working hard on his speech and recently met up with an unlikely contributor in 17-year-old Sinoyolo Qumba.

The presidential team shared news of Ramaphosa's meeting with the Grade 11 learner on Wednesday.

Briefly.co.za learnt that Qumba received a special invite to join Ramaphosa's speech-writing team following her well-written letter addressed to him.

In her letter, Qumba lauded the president for his achievements, but highlighted some of the major issues facing South Africans.

It was a heartwarming moment and one that Qumba is not likely to ever forget, but the tweet received a frosty reception.

One man who won't be attending SONA 2020 is former DA politician Herman Mashaba.

Briefly.co.za reported that Mashaba delivered scathing criticism of the event and President Ramaphosa.

According to Mashaba, SONA is nothing more than a fancy dress party filled with broken promises.

Veja (@velaphi2) responded to the news:

"That what you guys good at PR stunts."

Nandi Llanga (@LlangaNandi) added,

"The decline into poverty has been relentless & consistent, the SOE are the glaring elephants in this room, it is a big room yoh! The injustice, the disregard, premeditated #MarikanaMassacre.
#junkstatus #Loadshedding #Drought."
